Universitetet was opened on 12 January 1975.
This station is named after Stockholms Universitet (the University of Stockholm), located nearby.

This panel on the northbound platform is typical of the artwork at
Universitetet. Tiled artwork like this depicts facts from the various
sciences. A particular recurring theme is the journeys of Carl von
Linné, better known to non-Swedish speakers as Carolus Linnaeus,
the Swede who invented our system of classifying species of living
things.

A more detailed look at some of the artwork, the same panel we saw
above.

The Declaration of Animal Rights.
(20 January 2002)
On the track walls, the UN Declaration of Human Rights is shown in
Swedish; to add to the challenge of reading it, there are no spaces
between the words (similar to the Assemblée Nationale station in the
Paris Métro) and the additional markings have been removed from the
letters å, ä and ö.

Again on the northbound platform, this panel depicts
pollution, showing, among other things, per capita air
pollution in a number of the industrialized countries (the
US takes the dubious honor of first place).

A northbound train arriving at Universitetet. It's only been a couple
of months since C20 (new) stock started running on Tub2.
(20 January 2002)
The same northbound train stopped at the platform.

The same northbound train departing Universitetet.

More of the tiled artwork. Among other things, this panel shows
(at the left) the relative lengths of the world's longest rivers.
(20 January 2002)
Universitetet has only one exit, at the south end of the station.
Here is a view of the escalator bank there.
(20 January 2002)
A long view of the southbound platform, looking timetable north.

This depicts the sizes and weights of the largest animals. From
left to right, the records are for length/height, weight and wingspan.
(20 January 2002)
For some reason, the door to this emergency exit was wide open
the day I was there. Don't ever let anybody tell you Stockholm
doesn't have a graffiti problem.

station.
